History & Profile Hello and welcome to my website. Coming from a strong family background myself I am passionate about family life, and committed to supporting and encouraging the families in our community. Each family is important and together we make up our community as a whole. I have been counselling now for 35 years and have seen many social changes, but the importance of family always remains. I trained before there were counselling training courses, so took related courses at MIT before completing a degree in Theology, majoring in theology and Pastoral Care. At the same time I was doing extramural studies through Massey University to complete a BA in Social Science, followed by a Diploma in Violence and Trauma at AUT. In 1979 I was supporting my husband Ross to develop the Pukekohe Youth Centre and in the public survey that was taken there were requests for a ‘Help Centre.’ We arranged a public meeting and teams were trained by Life Line trainers in telephone and face to face counselling. From there developed Lifeline Franklin and then the Family Support Centre, now called Franklin Family Support Service. After coordinating the Family Support Centre for 25 years I left to come back to the Youth Centre to continue my counselling practice and develop the Pukekohe Budget Service. |
